Police arraign man for allegedly burning another man’s N3.5m jeep

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Joseph Okwuese, before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly setting fire on a Honda Acura jeep belonging to another man.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a count charge of wilfully and unlawfully setting fire on a Honda Acura jeep.
The prosecutor, Idowu Ogunleye, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 23 at about 8pm at Arankange Iberekodo area in Abeokuta.
Ogunleye said the accused willingly set fire on one Honda Acura jeep with registration number EKY 106 CH valued at N3.5 million, property of one Vincent Ajah.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened section 443(A) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
The Magistrate, Fatimat Ojelade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two surties.
Ojelade ordered that the sureties must be civil servants on Grade Level 8 or above with the Ogun State Civil Service Commission.
She also said that the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and also show evidence of two-year tax payment to the Ogun Government.
She adjourned the case till January 17, 2017.
